THE PARTY'S OVER - Part 2 Continued
Sowerby's really getting to John Boulton. "He's an animal. He should be locked up permanently."
"I'd wouldn't like to be his gaoler," Liz comments, as they go into the custody suite where Sgt. June Ackland's in charge today.
"Anything from the victim?" she asks the detectives.
"Didn't see his face," John tells her.
"Gonna be in hospital for weeks," Liz adds.
"So, what do you want to do with Sowerby?"
"We're going to have to release him," resigns John.
Reg and Tony're attending an RTA at Goldings Crescent. Apparently two vehicles swerved to avoid a man and crashed into each other. The man's gone walk about, as he was uninjured, so Tony puts out a call and his description.
Rosie and Eddie arrive to help out.
"You two kissed and made up?" asks Tony.
They both ignore his question. "What's happening?" Ed asks. Tony and Reg fill them in and they decide to have a drive round to see if they can find the missing pedestrian.
Boulton's had to release Sowerby. "You'll be back!" the DS tells him.
"Is that a threat?"
"You kicked that pensioner half to death for eighty quid!" Liz clearly doesn't like him either.
"Only half?"
Ed spots the missing pedestrian. Rosie turns the car around to let Ed jump out on the right side of the road. The man tells Ed to leave him alone.
"We just want to check you out: make sure you're okay. What's your name?" Rosie doesn't think that the guy's altogether. He's agitated and doesn't seem to understand what's going on. Ed stops him wandering off again and decides that they should take him back to the station and let the FME check him over.
"Why are you bothered? I wouldn't of thought that loonies were high on your list of worthy causes." Ed searches his pockets for the purpose of identification. He finds Mr Mackie's bus pass. The man won't say where he got it. "Who's Mr Mackie?"
"Well you'd know if you turned up to the briefing." Ed arrests him on suspicion of theft.
Rosie goes up to CID and tells Liz about the bus pass. "We've got this odd bloke in custody. Eddie found a bus pass in his pocket belonging to your victim."
"Mr Mackie?"
"He won't say how he got it though."
"Thanks I'll let the DS know." Liz asks Rosie to start the interview. "You look a bit rough," she comments. "You alright?"
Rosie forces a smile. "I'm okay."
"Any luck?" June asks. Eddie and the FME have been talking to their odd bloke, whose name is Jason. "Any sign of drug abuse?"
"No. No injury or disability. He's physically very fit," the FME tells them. "My guess is he's suffering from depression or he's had a shock of some kind."
"Such as?"
"Anything from bereavement to a lottery win."
"Rosebud!" Matt greets her. Looks like Eddie's nickname for her is common use now!
"Sarge, did Eddie ask to go out with me today?"
"Now why would he do that?"
"Did he?"
"Well it's up to me to assign the duties."
"I know that."
"What does it matter? You know you could do a lot better for yourself round here than Eddie Santini." Matt gives her a look up and down. Rosie watches him walk off.
Rosie goes into the custody area. Dave and George are trying to control a violent prisoner. Jason looks a bit shocked at the scene. "Liz Rawton would like us to start the interview, Sarge."
"Come on then, Jason, show's over. Time for a chat with me and Rosebud!" Ed tells him. Rosie walks off leaving Ed to drag Jason along. "What's up with you now?" he calls over to her. "Rosie?"
"Not here."
"Jason won't mind."
"I've talked to Sgt. Boyden."
"So?"
"You lied."
"Major conspiracy!" Jason keeps repeating that he needs the toilet.
"Why do you bother if all you want to do is give me grief?"
"I wanted a chance to talk things over."
"You've talked enough!" She goes to walk past him.
"Wait a minute," he stops her. "You can't just ignore how I feel about this." Rosie's not in the mood to listen.
"You're unbelievable! Are you really that thick Eddie?"
"You what?"
"Is it something in your genes that makes you an ignorant moron?" I don't think she meant to make a pun there (genes/jeans)!
"Don't push it!" he warns her, but Rosie carries on.
"Otherwise you must be some kind of helpless pervert! Either way, I could have you arrested anytime I want. Do you get it, Ed?"
"I need the toilet." Jason's not following their conversation.
"You'll have to take him," Rosie tells Ed.
"I don't feel like it."
"Tough! I'll get him a cup of tea." She goes off down the corridor.
"Come on," Ed tells Jason impatiently. He waits outside the men's toilets for Jason. Vicky comes along.
"Eddie, I was looking for you. How's it going with you and Ms Fox?"
"I told her we should call it a day, and she went mental at me," he lies, failing to notice that Jason's slipped out behind him. "Apparently I'm the one messing her around. Can't work her out."
"I wouldn't bother trying. Lost cause! See you later, mate!" Ed goes in the loos to look for Jason.
"Prat!" he hisses, when he realises he's lost the prisoner.
Rosie arrives at the interview room with a cup of tea for Jason, except neither he nor Eddie are there. Ed comes up behind her. "Where's Jason?"
"I don't know."
"What do you mean?"
"Well he's not with me."
"Eddie, you said you were taking him to the Gents." Ed denies this. "Eddie!"
"Is there a problem?" asks Sgt. Cryer.
"I think Rosie's lost our prisoner, Sarge," Ed plays the innocent.
"What?" say Bob.
"Me?!" exclaims Rosie.
