THE PARTY'S OVER - Part 3 Continued

At Sunhill, DS Boulton and Liz meet Eddie and Rosie in the corridor. Ed takes Julie and Jason into the interview room, while Rosie explains to the CID officers what happened. "I don't think he's your robber, Sarge, but I reckon he witnessed the whole thing."
"You're getting good at this, aren't you: walking backwards into results," comments Liz. Boulton asks if Liz can take Rosie's place on the interview, which Rosie seems almost relieved about.

Ed begins the interview with Jason. Julie's sitting in on it to give Jason moral support. "Okay, in your own time. I'm showing you exhibit ES1, a travel-pass." He asks Jason where he found it and when.
"This morning I went back, after Julie had gone to work. I found it in the bushes there." Ed then asks what happened the night before in the park. "I lost…" Jason's getting confused again.
"You lost your watch, remember Jase," Julie prompts him. Ed reminds her that they need to hear it from Jason.
"I was in there looking for my watch," he continues. "I was on my hands and knees looking, in the bushes near the path. I saw the old man walking. This bloke came out of the bushes on the other side. He grabbed the old bloke, pushed him down and started kicking. It was horrible." He begins to cry. "I was scared. I was so close, I could hear his ribs cracking."" Liz encourages to carry on. "I was a coward, you see. I thought, if I try and help, I'll get hurt. So I just hid there, waited, while he was busy robbing the old man. I ran off. I should have got help."
"Jason, did you get a good look at his face, the guy who did the robbery?" asks Liz.
"Yes," he sniffles.
"Do you think you can describe him for us?"
"I see him in my mind all the time. I'll never forget it."

The interview's over and Sgt. Boyden asks what is happening. Rosie hovers behind them. "Jason gave us a good description of Sowerby. We're going to pick him up tonight," Liz informs them.
Boyden tells Eddie and Rosie that they can knock off now. "You two got away with it!" Sgt. Ackland passes by and asks Ed for a quick word. Rosie watches on, wondering what it's about, as Ed follows June into the Sergeants' Office.
"You're personal business is just that, personal," begins June. "But it's hardly any secret there's something going on between you and Rosie." Ed tries to interrupt her, but she stops him. "One or both of you took their eye of the ball today, badly. Now, I don't much care which one of you it was. What I do care about is that two experienced officers seem to be forgetting what they're here for, and are behaving like irresponsible schoolkids all of a sudden."
"Sarge, me and Rosie," he pauses for a moment. "Well, basically I broke it off with her today. That's why she was in a state. That's probably why she wasn't too sharp around Jason."
"Relationships between colleagues are always complicated."
"That's exactly what I trying to explain to Rosie, Sarge." June accepts this and dismisses him.

Rosie's just about to leave on her bike, when Liz, Boulton and some others pass her by. June follows just behind them.
"They off to pick up Sowerby?"
"Yeah."
"You look stressed out," June comments.
"I'm fine, Sarge."
"Look, I know it's hardly been quiet since you got here. A lot's happened to you, and I did just wonder how you felt you were coping."
"I'm coping fine, Sarge," Rosie insists.
June realises that Rosie's not going to discuss her problems. "Right, okay, I'll see you tomorrow."

"Looks like he's in," John says as she and two other officers get out of the cars. "Nice and loud, Liz!"
"No problem," as the DS and one other guy go round the back. She knocks on the door and shouts that it's the police through the letterbox.
John and the bloke with him stand either side of the gate to the back of Sowerby's house. Sure enough, Sowerby runs out and is caught by the detectives. "That's what I love about criminals. They're so predictable!" says John as he handcuffs the prisoner.

"So do we stay in pairs?" The relief's is the pub after the shift.
"It's not like a patrol, Polly!" laughs Vicky.
"Just shoot anybody that's not in your team, Poll!" Dave tells her.
"Well is Rosie gonna come?"
"I doubt it after today!" says Vicky.
"She's not showing much team spirit," remarks George. He starts to suggest to Matthew that he gets out his magic wand again, but Dave quickly stops him.
"What magic wand?" June asks Matthew who's beside him at the bar.
"Ask George. I put in a good word for Ed with Rosie today."
"Hang on, I thought he was breaking it off with her."
"He is. But he doesn't want to."
"Matt, we're supposed to be managing them. Not setting them up as life partners!"
However, Ed seems to have got over it quickly. He causes a stir when he comes in dressed for a night out. "I'm off to a club in a bit," he explains.
"Meeting Rosie here?" Vicky asks sweetly.
"Don't take the mick!" Ed tells her.
"Oh, did you here? She's been in contact with the Fed Rep at Stafford Roe," Polly tells them all. Ed's a bit worried.
"What's all that about?" George asks.
"I don't know. A mate of mine over there just took the message."
"Obviously don't think much of George," smiles Dave.
George is a bit put out. "The Fed Rep's a female at Stafford Roe: Ann somebody or other. So what's the problem?" he asks Ed.
"Don't ask me!" Ed answers. He quickly changes the subject and offers to get a round in.

Rosie's at home quietly reading a book and listening to some music. She hears the doorbell. She's sees that it's Eddie through the window in the door, and goes back into the living room, unsure of what to do.
He comes to window. "Oi, Rosie!"
"Go away, Eddie!"
"I want to know why you lied to me!" She turns the blind and seems rather frightened. "I want to know why you've been and talked to the Fed Rep at Stafford Roe! Rosie, you bitch!" he shouts. She turns the music up to drown out the sound of his voice. "Let me in and tell me what's happening, you owe me that!" She puts her fingers in her ears. Eventually Ed gets the message. "Alright Rosie, if you want a war, you've got a war!"
