Bellman offers Rosie a cigarette, but she doesn't smoke. "You don't live locally."
"No, I came to see Kim." She's edgy around him, probably because she wasn't briefed this far.
"Yeah, she said."
"She let me stay for a few days while I find a place." She starts to become more confident.
"Yeah, she said."
"Kim mentioned you had a place: a hostel next door."
"Did she? She's quick off the mark. Unfortunately it's full right now."
"Well, I thought I'd ask."
"That's no problem." Rosie starts to look around. "You seem nervous, Rosie," he comments. "Why's that?"
"I'm not the best company right now," she improvises. "Basically, I've been really screwed around recently. But I'm not going to lay it on you. Kim's already had an earful, so, feel free to leave me drowning in self-pity."
"I wouldn't want to do that. You're too pretty to die young. So, what are your plans for the evening, Rosie?"
"Drink myself into a corner for a while."
"Just then, Eddie comes in. "Slag!" he calls her in front of Bellman.
"What?"
"Get outside a minute, I want to talk to you," he aggressively tells her. "Better yet, get your bags, say goodbye to you little friend here and let's go home."
"I'm not going anywhere!"
"And this is?" Bellman calmly asks.
"Eddie, my ex-boyfriend."
"Come on, Rosie."
"No!"
Ed grabs her arm. "Don't play games with me. You owe me."
"I don't owe you anything. I'm a free agent!" She tells Ed to let go of her, and then Bellman tells him to calm it down.
"Are you coming with me?" Eddie asks Rosie.
"No!"
"I'm not going without you."
"Get the message, Ed. You don't give me orders and I don't take them!" This argument's becoming more real than a show. Ed quietly leaves. When he's gone, she apologises to Bellman.
"Stop apologising. You did fine. I can see what the problem is."
"He thinks he owns me!"
"Look, I think understand the situation. Relax. Have another drink. Things can only get better."
"Thanks, I will."

At first the others aren't impressed when they realise that Eddie didn't get Rosie out of the pub.
"She completely blanked me. I gave her the whole bit and she refused."
"Well she's the one in at the deep end," Liz tells him.
"She doesn't even know what the deep end is!"
"Eddie, she's the officer undercover. She has to call it."
"That's the problem when having females on the job. You've got to keep one eye on them along with everything else," he rants.
"Tell me about it," mutters Rod.
"Did she look like she was handling it?" Liz calmly asks.
"Hard to tell. I was too busy getting the red card." He stops for a moment. "I suppose so."
"So what's the problem?"
|
"So you're a woman of the world now, eh?" Bellman asks Rosie.
"That's the polite way of putting it."
"Don't put yourself down!" Rosie goes onto to give a little speech of what she "learnt from Eddie." After, Bellman orders them both some dinner.
|
It's late. Rod, Tom, Liz and Eddie are still at the Jolliffe's. Eddie's busy pacing up and down the room, until Liz tells him to go and sit down as he's getting on her nerves.
"Paint a wall or something," Rod suggests, who's too busy lying down on the sofa.
"She's supposed to be there for a couple of hours, not all night."
"Well, she's probably making progress. It's only twenty minutes till closing. We might as well make a move." Eddie decides to stay until Rosie's out.
|
Rosie's thanking Bellman for the meal.
"I'm still a bit nervous around nice guys."
"What makes you think I'm a nice guy?"
"Aren't you?"
"Yes. I could be even nicer and organise you up a room."
"I thought you were full at the hostel."
"Actually, one's just come free. The occupant's left all their stuff there. I just haven't finished clearing it all out."
"That's great! It'll be nice not to have to put Kim out for too long." Bellman offers to sort it out for that night, which Rosie pretends to be pleased about.
"Everything okay here?" Kim interrupts them.
"Great! Clive's just offered me a room at the hostel. He's going to move me in now." Rosie tells her, with a look that says Get Me Out!
"What? She's my oldest mate, you letch. Don't I even get her for one night?" Kim looks worried for a second.
Rosie suggests that she move in the next day instead, which Bellman reluctantly agrees with. Rosie's pleased with herself now.
|
Tom calls over to the window.
"About time!" Rosie's finally out with Bellman.
Rosie thanks him for the room and meal. "Do I get a thank-you-kiss?" She gives him a peck on the cheek, but he kisses her on the lips. Rod and Tom are enjoying the show!
"Look at that. She's got staying power, hasn't she!" comments Rod. Ed's obviously jealous and decides to leave. "What's the matter, don't you want to stay and watch the end of this?"
"I'll see you later."
"That was pretty good. I could be coming back for more." Bellman invites Rosie to dinner for next day, which she accepts. As he walks off, Kim finishes locking up the pub.
"That was a long goodbye," she remarks.
"I'm just glad it was goodnight!" Rosie tells her.
|
It's bedtime for Rod and Tom, who are camping on the Jolliffe's living room floor. Bruce's wife, Maria, apologises for the crush and wishes them both goodnight. Her husband has so many momentos from the navy. Tom's enjoying himself looking at the models. Apparently, he was into all that stuff as a kid. Rod's not interested and just switches the lamp off.
"Turn the light back on!"
|
Rosie and Kim are walking through an alley back to Kim's place. Rosie looks freezing in her outfit. They're busy discussing how Bellman was chatting up Rosie. "It was fast even for him," Kim tells her. Just then, Rosie gets the feeling that they're being followed, but they can't see anyone there.
"I must have been imagining it."
"Don't spook me...this happened to Tracy." Tracy thought she was being followed too. They hurry off. Behind them, a man appears them!
|
Rosie and Kim are late, so Liz, Chris and Eddie are starting to worry.
"Probably doing some late-night window-shopping," suggests the DI.
Ed's watching from behind the curtain. "Here they are...You're late!" he tells them as they come through the door.
"Nice to see you too!" she replies. "I thought we were being followed so we took the long route. I think I was imagining it though."
"Well you're here now," the DI says to her, "How did it go?"
"I was a bit thrown at first, but I think he liked me."
"Yeah, we noticed," Eddie remarks.
"He's offered me Tracy's room at the hostel," she triumphantly reports.
"Creepy!" comments Kim, as she goes upstairs.
"Plus he's invited me to dinner tomorrow."
"That's excellent, Rosie. Better than we could have hoped for."
"So Eddie going in didn't spoil anything?" asks Liz.
"No, spot on. It broke the ice with Bellman. You were perfect, darling," she says to Ed.
"I'm always perfect." She gives him a one of her looks for that. The DI decides to call it a night and tells everyone that they'll debrief in the morning. Liz congratulates them as she leaves. Ed's not so ecstatic.
"Come on, Ed. We did really well."
"Yeah well you did. What was it like having Bellman's tongue down your throat for ten minutes?"
"Orgasmic!" she sarcastically replies. Someone comes to the door. It's DI Hadfield from SERCS (I have know idea what that is! Does Sierra Oscar know?" He tells Chris that their operations are going to clash. His team is after Bellman's boss: a Russian heroin importer called Ruzhkov. (I had to look that up on the credits at the end!) Bellman organises Ruzhkov's couriers: the hostel girls. The SERCS team spotted Rosie and thought that she was another tom. Well, she did tell Ed that she would convince people!
Deakin proposes a joint operation, as Rosie will find it much easier to get the evidence that both teams need. Hadfield agrees, but Ed's not convinced that she's up to it!
"Guv, Rosie's nowhere near experienced enough," begins Ed.
"I can handle it, Guv."
"We pull information and resources. We get Bellman, you get Ruzhkov."
"I'm ready to give it a go, Sir," Rosie tells Hadfield.
"Subject to approval, you've got a deal." The op's still on.
The two DIs and Liz walk out of the room discussing Ruzhkov.
"Are you crazy, Rosebud? These are serious dangerous characters." Eddie's actually acting concerned!
However, she's confident that she can cope. "You're acting like my Dad!"
"There's nothing wrong with being worried about you."
"I'm a grown-up girl, Ed. I can take care of myself, okay?"
|
It's the next day, and Rosie's slightly late for the debrief. She meets Debbie and Vicky in the corridor.
"It's our virtual team member! Love the outfit."
"Morning Vicky."
"How's it going with Eddie?" Debs asked.
"Pretty good."
"Woah! There you are Rosebud!" Ed's in a cheerful mood!
"Are they waiting for me?"
"No. The DI's just arrived."
"I didn't get much sleep last night," she tells him.
He laughs. "I'm surprised you had any energy left after yesterday."
She playfully hits him on the arm as they go into the briefing room. "That wasn't what I meant!"
"Good."
|
"Morning everyone." Chris begins his speech. He reminds everyone of the SERCs job, but DCI Meadows and the SERCs DCI aren't happy to let Rosie go back undercover.
"Why?" she sighs.
"They don't think you're up to handling Ruzhkov."
"They don't know anything about me, Guv." Unfortunately DI Deakin couldn't get them to change their minds though. Jim's not needed anymore, but Rod and Tom need to go back until Rosie can be pulled out without warning off the targets.
Deakin and Liz take Rosie and Eddie aside to brief them more thoroughly.
"Liz will brief you before you go back in, but basically you'll have to affect some sort of reconciliation in the next couple of days."
"So I'm still moving into the hostel now?" asks Rosie.
"Yes, but softly, softly with Bellman, until Eddie can sort out this reconciliation."
"Okay, Guv."
"Old Hogwash will be gutted."
Tom sticks up for Bruce. "He got that leg injury fighting in the Falklands you know."
"Yeah right. Eyes down, curtains twitch, you're at three o'clock." The door opens just on time as they reach the doorstep.
"Morning my friends!" Bruce welcomes them. Maria's made them some coffee and provides them with biscuits. "Are we making progress?" Tom tells the Jolliffes that they have to close down their obbo as other officers are taking over the case. Bruce is disappointed.
"Well we'll be here for the next couple of days," Rodney tells them as he helps to a cup of coffee.
